Manipur has a unique topography where the hills and valley symbiotically create an ecosystem that is bio-diverse, fertile, high in natural mineral content and ecologically sef-sustained. Decades of deforestation has however impacted this balance negatively causing flash floods whenever it rains and acute scarcity of water during the dry seasons. This is because the water in our perennial rivers are capillary in nature and percolate slowly from the hills and mountains, which form more than 90% of the landmass. With deforestation, the rain waters are running off immediately and the soil is unable to retain them to create capillary water.
